Photography in the DARK!!!

Gale force winds, frigid temperatures, (maybe a slight exaggeration) glow sticks, sparklers, and a bunch of hyper teenage girls = FUN! FUN! FUN!
Last night we did Photography in the Dark. Say what? I know it sounds more complex then it is, but it's pretty cool if you ever care to give it a try. So we got outside and set our cameras up on tripods ready to bring on the good times. Jenny went to start lighting sparklers to get the magic going, and wouldn't you know it she just couldn't seem to get them lit. We thought perhaps the low budget party store sparklers were faulty? Hmmm... Attempt after attempt was made to light them as we circled Jenny creating a wind barrier. Then to our dismay we noticed the flame on the barbecue lighter was becoming increasingly smaller, and smaller, and (poof) it was gone. Yep the lighter was dead, and we'd just barely got started. It wasn't a total loss because we did have glow sticks, bracelets, and glasses... but the sparklers were the pinnacle of our vision, and it just wasn't going to be as entertaining without them. Jenny ran inside desperately looking for a lighter but came up empty handed. Then the light bulb went off and I said "what about the car lighter?." So yes we used the car lighter and ran from the car to the empty field with sparklers (hmmm running with sparklers? brilliant!) hoping they wouldn't burn out on our way. (and also hoping that this plan wouldn't result in any injuries of course) Thankfully it went off without a hitch. WHEW! Even though we had a bit of a fiasco at the onslaught, we still had an excellent time, and got a few decent shots. Preparedness is the key, and next time we'll double up on the good old BBQ lighters.
Here are a few shots, and if you wanna try it and have a SLR... the settings are as follows. f8 @ 8-10 seconds @ ISO 100 on a tripod. If you have a P&S (point & shoot) put it on the night mode, and may the force be with you (:
