Summer Treasures (well at least in our eyes)

Ok... anyone who know us, knows that we LOVE garage sales. The crisp morning air and dreams of finding that perfect item that you probably don't really need but really want is a tremendous feeling. We call it treasure hunting, and our few free Saturday mornings are often spent looking for unique items at a great price. We love that feeling you get when you come across a stellar find, and the adrenaline starts pumping through your body. I'm sure some of you know exactly what I'm talking about. Your heart starts beating out of your chest, your palms start sweating, and you have an overwhelming excitement that you have to fight to contain. After all, you definitely don't want the seller to see your hand before the bidding game begins, do you? In fact you even start to get paranoid that another bargain hunter is eying your special item. So not cool! For me, half the fun is getting the deal. I love bartering. I usually get in the car after a sweet deal, and fondly refer to it as "taking them down." Getting a great buy on something is occasionally better then getting the item itself.
Here is some (oh yes there's more) of the spoil from this past summer. arrrrrgh
Our favorite garage sale (yes we have a favorite) this season was Maria's Vintage Tag sale in Fonthill just a few short weeks ago. She had some stunning items and fair prices as well. Check out her blog and if you're looking for something special shoot her an email and see if she can help you out. She's super nice! (:

Aren't old cameras uber cool? This Brownie Hawkeye is absolutely fantastic with it's topside viewfinder.

This 8mm Bell & Howell (I wonder if the B&H photography store was named after this brand, or if the B and H just stands for something simple like Bernice and Harry perhaps?) movie camera still works perfectly however I don't know if you can still get film for them?? It would sure be cool to test it out. The other item is a solid brass letter R for Reed that now adorns our door.

We scored these fantastic hand written letters from the start of the 19th century. (the oldest one dates 1908) The recipient is a Dr. who worked at a sanatorium in Richmond Virginia, and some of the letters are from relatives, and family members serving in the military overseas.

Last but not least our chest we bought at Maria's vintage sale. We are still contemplating if it's going to be our new coffee table or not...what do you think?

  1. It makes me so happy to see beautiful pieces that I've scooped up looking so gorgeous in the homes of others! It's so so encouraging. Love the chest and as for the letters, I'm totally sold out!
